Our central scripture verse that motivates our Center comes from Jeremiah 15:19 “This is how the Lord responds: “If you return to me, I will restore you so you can continue to serve me. If you speak good words rather than worthless ones, you will be my spokesman. You must influence them; do not let them influence you!”
The Center for Christian Civic Engagement is based upon a Biblical, Christian Worldview:
God is the all-powerful, all-knowing Creator of the universe and He is sovereign over everything, and was, is, and always will be active in His creation.
The Bible is the inspired Word of God and the source of all manners of Truth.
2 Timothy 3: 16-17: 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
Man is fallen and sinful at heart; separated from God and in need of a Savior.
Jeremiah 17:9 The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Isaiah 53:6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our won. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.
Jesus is the Way, and the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6):
God extended immeasurable grace (unmerited favor) to us through the person and work of Jesus Christ (Titus 2:11); who was born of a virgin (Matthew 1:23); lived a sinless, perfect life (Hebrews 4:15); he paid the price for our sins through his death on the cross (2 Corinthians 5:21); he defeated death through his resurrection (Matthew 28: 5-6, 1 Corinthians 15: 12-20); he is alive today at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf (Romans 8:34). We receive forgiveness and salvation through belief and faith in His work (Romans 10: 9-10; 1 Peter 1: 8-9). We cannot earn salvation, it is a free gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9). In loving and thankful response to this wonderful gift we live lives that are increasingly transformed into the likeness of Jesus and are decreasingly conformed to the fallen state of the world (Romans 12:2; 2 Corinthians 5:17).
Satan is real and active in the world today (2 Corinthians 4:4); evil is real and active (Romans 1: 18-32).
The purpose of civil government is limited and defined (Romans 13: 1-6)
Christians are to be God’s Ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20) in all areas of life, to include civics. We are to be bold and courageous (Joshua 1:9, John 14:27, 1 Corinthians 15:58, 2 Timothy 1:7)
We believe in Christian engagement while maintaining a proper balance and respect to God’s defined roles and responsibilities of the individual, the family, the church, and the state.
Christian Civic Engagement is Biblically supported, desperately needed, and sorely underrepresented.
