What Will the New Normal Look Like?
It is time to stop being “shocked” or “surprised” by the increasingly horrid, godless actions and behaviors seen in our culture. I simply don’t understand how anyone can genuinely be surprised to read about things such as mass shootings, terrorist attacks, improper sexual relationships, destructive predatory sexual behaviors, and the like. These behaviors are the natural and unsurprising new normal created through destructive social policy and an increasingly apostate church in America over the last 40 – 50 years.
It is NEVER time to stop being grieved, saddened, and driven to our knees in sadness, regret, and compassion. When we see innocent life taken, we MUST stop, pray, and help those effected. When we encounter violated victims, we MUST stop, pray, and help those impacted. Never can we lose compassion, never can we lose empathy, and never can we lose the genuine hurt that comes when we see God’s creation destroyed at the hands of fellow humans.
THIS ISN’T THE NEW NORMAL
I often read we cannot let this be the “new normal”. I agree, but in a way that might surprise you. I agree this cannot be the lasting new normal because the new normal is going to be progressively worse and is yet to come. A majority of Americans, many of whom claim the title Christian, have rejected God’s design of normal and have embraced thoughts and ideas incompatible with God’s design; as such, the new normal can only and will only continue to worsen day by day.
WHAT WILL THE NEW NORMAL LOOK LIKE?
The new normal being advocated, wittingly and unwittingly by many, is based around two main ideas:
No God, No Consequences:
God has been driven from any areas of public life. He is no longer allowed in schools, universities, military, or government. There is an active drive to push him out of businesses and even to destroy and remove any public image that might make someone think about God.
This drive has a specific purpose; to eliminate the concept of personal accountability for one’s actions. Without God there are no eternal consequences to actions. Without eternal consequences there is nothing but cultural pressure, peer pressure, or government force to cause somebody to restrain their actions.
The culture has lost its moral authority to tell anyone they cannot do something. Our culture is quick to celebrate those who push and break boundaries, especially boundaries associated with traditionally held views of marriage, sex, and gender. When culture has the strength to say something is wrong it is already too late; they have lost any foundation to state anything is improper.
Most peers are too weak to stand for a clear standard of right and wrong because who are they to say something is wrong for somebody else to do? When somebody is brave enough to stand against damaging behavior, they are attacked with the phrase “Who are you to judge”, worse yet are those who immediately weaken themselves by saying “Who am I to judge?” Oh, the sadness of this perverted use of scripture!
Since cultural and peer pressures do not work, the last defense is governmental force. Government force cannot cause somebody who is willing to die to moderate their behavior.
How can we be shocked when godless people act in a godless manner?
The Primacy of Self:
Today, self dominates. Selfish desires, selfish impulses, selfish feelings, etc. are everything. If I want to do something who is to declare my SELF wrong? If I feel like doing something, how can there be a God who says don’t act upon those impulses?
If I want to cheat on my spouse with someone I feel attracted to, why shouldn’t I? If I feel attracted to the same sex, so be it. If I want multiple sex partners at one time, who are you to judge? If I feel like a different gender? So be it. If I want to take drugs to feel better, why shouldn’t I? Why shouldn’t I make obscene profit at the expense of others?
If these impulses are tolerated, if not even celebrated then reasoning devolves. If I want to sexually dominate women because of my position, what should stop me? If I want to sexually touch a child to satisfy my desires, why shouldn’t I? What’s wrong with killing someone so I can be accepted by a gang? What’s wrong with acting upon my desire to not work and to steal from others? Why should I restrain my impulse to kill people because I am angry? If I have the impulse to randomly shoot a crowd of people, why should I control my impulse? Why must I restrain my impulses if so many others don’t have to?
When Self is god then all else must come in second place. When self dominates, ultimately behaviors cannot matter. Disagree? Who are you to declare my SELF wrong?
UNTIL JESUS RETURNS…
The devolving of what is considered normal will continue until Jesus Christ returns and claims His rightful place as Lord of all. This is NOT meant in a defeatist manner but as a matter of fact. Only Jesus will bring back order, peace, and righteousness.
And even then, even with the perfect Savior in place, it states that during his Millennial reign, people will continue to reject Him and His perfect righteousness. It is not until after the Judgment Throne and the New Heaven and New Earth are established as described in Revelation 20 and 21 that the Final, Perfect Normal will come into being.
So what are we to do until then?
Stop being shocked at the evil in the world; understand, in proper eternal context, that things will get worse.
Accept that conditions will not get better; I believe the Nation has made it choice and the choice was not God.
We must lay our lives and our selfish desires at the feet of Jesus and seek only His will and blessings for our lives. Be transformed to God’s desires and not conformed to the world’s pressures.
We continue to seek and speak Truth in accordance with God’s clearly revealed truth in the Bible. We must try to influence the lost even when they are not interested in what we have to say.
We continue to keep our eyes on the Lordship and Salvation of Jesus through the active assistance and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
As for me, I am committed to stand and fight against this trend. I am committed to stand against our culture’s push to create this apocalyptic new normal. I am committed to stand with God, proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, and lean upon the power of the Holy Spirit. I do so with the ultimate goal of hearing those wonderful words “Well done good and faithful servant”.
